Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Wednesday, July 12 — about your Seattle Seahawks

2022 was a season of re-establishing respect for Seattle, as the roster underwent massive changes via the trade of quarterback Russell Wilson. After coaching up the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year, a 1,000-yard rookie rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers, Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron is receiving praise. In Pro Football Focus' latest rankings, Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus ranks Waldron No.4 on the Top-10 list of league offensive coordinators.

In 2021, Seattle hired the Portland native after Waldron served four seasons as tight ends coach and passing game coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. The Tufts University alum's offense improved from 323 yards per game (20th) in 2021 to 351.5 in 2022 (13th). Seattle's 23.9 ppg in 2022 ranked No.9, serving as one of the league's most high-powered offenses. Monson breaks down Waldron's crafty play calling ability, while highlighting the potential of the Seahawks' offense in 2023.

4. SHANE WALDRON

When Shane Waldron was initially hired, the focus was on how he was going to help unlock the best play from Russell Wilson. As it turns out, he was to preside over a breakout season from Geno Smith instead. It's very difficult to parse where the credit for that unexpected season belongs, or even how real it was, but transforming a journeyman quarterback into a top-10 starter is a seriously impressive thing to put on a resume. Waldron's offense last season ranked 13th in expected points added per play and 12th in successful play percentage.

"I think just every day of trying to continue to grow and learn from the different experiences," Waldron said. "I think it's been a lot of fun with the support from coach Carroll and the coaching staff, and continuing to grow and build and learn from each other as this process has gone on."

With the addition of wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running backs Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh via the 2023 NFL Draft, Waldron's offense becomes even more complicated for opposing coordinators to prepare for. With the 2023 season around the corner, Waldron has another opportunity to climb the list - and help Seattle in the pursuit for its second championship.
