Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's going on out there and any news you might have missed, about your Seattle Seahawks this week.
Leonard Williams closed out his 2024 season, made sure to leave a mark and for that was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December/January, Williams is the first Seahawks defensive player since Cliff Avril in 2016 to win Player of the Month.
"Williams, who had a pair of sacks in Seattle's Week 18 win over the Rams, tied for the NFL lead in both sacks (6.0) and tackles for loss (nine) in December and January, helping the Seahawks go 4-2 over that span. Williams also had a 92-yard pick six to kick off December, sparking a comeback win over the Jets, the longest interception return touchdown by a defensive lineman in NFL history, according to ESPN Research.
"He didn't need an exclamation point, but he sure added one today with all the work that he's done," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after Sunday's win. "… This guy had two sacks. He got to 11 (on the season). He's playing his ass off. He should be a First Team All-Pro, should be a Pro Bowler."
Williams somehow was not named to the NFC's Pro Bowl roster (he is an alternate) or the AP All-Pro team despite finishing the season ranked first among interior linemen in both sacks (11.0) and tackles for loss (16). Williams was also the one of only two players, along with Myles Garrett, widely considered one of the league's best edge rushers, to have three games with 2-plus sacks and 3-plus tackles for loss this season, with two of those games coming in December."

@holliwinters57.bsky.social asks, "Who would you say was the most improved player in 2024?"**
"A: A good case could be made for Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had a breakout second season with 100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns, with that receptions total tying Tyler Lockett's single-season franchise record. But Smith-Njigba's breakout seemed to be more the result of better health and of him getting more opportunities more than anything else. The 2023 first-round pick looked really good last year as well, but he also battled multiple injuries and just didn't get the volume of targets that he saw this year.
So as impressive as Smith-Njigba's second season was, I'd go with outside linebacker Derick Hall for most improved. Hall, a second-round pick in last year's draft, had a pretty quiet rookie season, starting zero games and playing only 26 percent of Seattle's defensive snaps while recording no sacks, three tackles for loss and five quarterback hits. A strong training camp helped Hall earn a bigger role this season, and he took advantage in a big way, starting 14 games, increasing his playing time to 60 percent of the defensive snaps on his way to 8.0 sacks, the second most on team, 20 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery that he returned 36 yards for a touchdown."
