Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's going on out there and any news you might have missed, about your Seattle Seahawks this week.
Seahawks-Titans Joint Practices
The Seahawks traveled to Nashville this weekfor their joint practice with the Tians before their preseason matchup on Saturday. Over the two days of practice Devon Witherspoon showed how he can back up his trash talking, the receivers had productive practices and Byron Murphy II standing out.
Here are some observations from Days 1 and 2 of practice.
Ever since the Seahawks put on pads five days into practice, it has been evident that first-round pick Byron Murphy II has a chance to bring something special to Seattle's defense. His combination of speed of the ball and power have made him a pretty regular visitor into opposing backfields, both in practice and in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chargers. That trend continued on Wednesday when Murphy once again had several standout moments both in one-on-one pass-rush drills and in the team portion of practice.
Asked about the defense's performance after practice, Macdonald noted, "A lot of positive things at the line of scrimmage, especially with our ones."
Murphy was with the ones a decent amount in practice, especially after Dre'Mont Jones left early, but when Macdonald was later asked specially about Murphy having a strong day, he grinned and deadpanned, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Apparently the first rule of Byron Murphy Hype Club is that you don't talk about Byron Murphy Hype Club.
During the practice on Thursday, there seemed to be more of an energy with players than there was on Day 1. The players looked like they were operating a little more freely and felt comfortable. At some points the practice got a bit chippy, but nothing ever crossed over the line.
"Good balance," safety Julian Love said on being competitive without pushing the red button. "Leaders came together before the first day just saying, hey, let's compete, let's do what we do, talk, all that stuff, but let's hold that fine line. Obviously, it got chippy, that's going to be natural when you're competing, but I think we came here and did what we needed to do."
Part of getting chippy was some highly entertaining trash talking that ensued between Witherspoon, Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams.
"It got a little chippy, but we stayed away from overdoing it," Witherspoon said. "But I think that's just practice in general. When you practice against another team, I think things going to get chippy. It's hot out here, so I mean it's just nothing but a little friendly competition."
"We were very clear about what we wanted to get out of this practice," Titans head coach Brian Callahan said. "Mike [Macdonald] was clear with his team, I was clear with ours. I think we got really good work. It's going to get chippy out there, it's two highly competitive NFL football players, that's just the way it goes. But it was good to see the restraint. It was back and forth, there was some talking but at the end of the day, we got out of this two days worth of really good work without any real issues or escalation and that's good to see."
Good Morning Football Crew 'Way In' on Kenneth Walker III
The Good Morning Football crew took a look at Maurice Jones-Drew's list of top running backs for 2024 and broke down which running back they were all in on. Peter Schrager named Kenneth Walker III as his running back to watch.
"If you look at this offense, last year, now they have [Zach] Charbonnet, they have other guys, now I know in the preseason debut we didn't see a lot of Kenneth Walker, we saw Charbonnet instead. I wouldn't be shocked if Kenneth Walker is one of those top five guys."
