Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Wednesday, February 23 — about your Seattle Seahawks.

Former Seahawks QB Alex McGough Selected In USFL Draft

The United States Football League (USFL) held Day 1 of its draft Tuesday, and former Seahawks practice squad quarterback Alex McGough was the sixth player to hear his name called in the first round by the Birmingham Stallions.

The USFL is a new professional spring football league, bearing no relation to the league of the same name that ran from 1983 through 1985. The league's eight franchises begin their 10-game regular season schedules April 16 in Birmingham, Ala. Training camp is set to begin on March 21.

McGough was drafted by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Florida International — the first quarterback drafted by the Seahawks since the team selected Russell Wilson in 2012. McGough spent his rookie season on the practice squad, then spent training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 before signing with the Texans and briefly being promoted to their active roster. McGough returned for a second stint on the Seahawks’ practice squad in December 2020, and was waived prior to the start of the 2021 season.

In four years at Florida International, McGough threw for 9,091 yards and 65 touchdowns against 37 interceptions, while adding another 16 touchdowns on the ground.
