Good morning, 12s.
Here's a look at what's 'out there' for today – Thursday, May 23 – about your Seattle Seahawks:
The Business Beyond The Turf
Football is so much more than the exciting physical matchup you watch every Sunday on your television set. For the players of the National Football League, football is their livelihood. It's their income. It's more than just a game. Football goes far beyond the turf when it comes to the business behind it all.
On that note, the NFL Players Association understands the importance of learning the business of football, such as building a player's brand and personal endorsement career. Over the weekend of May 16-19, the NFLPA hosted 40 top rookies from the 2019 NFL Draft in Los Angeles, California at the 25th annual NFLPA Rookie Premiere presented by Panini America, to learn the business of football.
Players that attended gained insights and made connections that will assist them in the development of their careers and brands both on and off the field. Another benefit of the event is that participating players were briefly informed of the NFLPA's programs and services.
This year, two members of the Seahawks 2019 draft class were invited to the exclusive event. No. 64 overall pick DK Metcalf and No. 120 overall pick Gary Jennings, both wide receivers, made their way down to LA.
I'm sure you may have seen some content posted on Seahawks socials featuring the two wideouts in uniform. Fans LOVE seeing our new guys suited up for the first time, which is one of the many elements of the Rookie Premiere.
The event was not only an opportunity for the select group of rookies to be educated but also for more than 30 NFLPA business partners to engage with the group and create content and showcase goods and services. Panini America, the exclusive trading card partner of the NFLPA, is just one of the many partners that sponsor the event. Others include Bud Light, EA Sports, New Era, and Gatorade.
"The NFLPA Rookie Premiere is an unparalleled opportunity for partners to engage with tomorrow's most influential athletes," said Ahmad Nassar, President of NFL Players Inc., which is the licensing and marketing arm of the NFLPA. "For the first time as professionals and following in the footsteps of Russell Wilson, Saquon Barkley, and Baker Mayfield, this year's rookies will learn about the business of football from union leadership as they start to build a plan to succeed beyond their player careers while connecting on a personal level with partners who share their passion for the game."
Be sure to stay tuned on both Seahawks.com and Seahawks socials to see more of Metcalf, Jennings, and the rest of our 2019 NFL Draft class.
