Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Tuesday, November 15 — about your Seattle Seahawks.
Tariq Woolen & Abraham Lucas Named to PFF All-Rookie Team
The 6-4 Seahawks continue to get showered in praise for their 2022 rookie class, with players on both sides of the ball making a case for rookie honors. This week, Pro Football Focus names rookie tackle Abraham Lucas and cornerback Tariq Woolen to the Midseason All-Rookie team.
In a year in which many outside of the organization didn't have high expectations for the Seahawks, Seattle sits atop the NFC West and has several candidates for top rookie honors. Quarterback Geno Smith is among the leader in many of the major of passing statistics, and a big part of that is his two rookie offensive tackles Charles Cross and Lucas. Cross and Lucas are the only rookie tackle duo to start the first nine games of the season since 1982.
Pro Football Focus writer Michael Renner breaks down the selections for the rookie team, including the Seahawks pair of standouts.
In terms of unlikelihood for a rookie draft pick, finding a legitimately above-average pass-protecting offensive tackle in the third round is incredibly high. However, Lucas has allowed only 15 pressures on 346 pass-blocking snaps for a 73.9 pass-blocking grade this season.
Woolen wasn't supposed to be this good this quickly. The fastest corner at the combine, he was playing wide receiver only a few short years ago, but now his four interceptions rank first at the position. He's now had seven straight games with either a pick or a pass breakup, and the only thing pushing his 72.4 coverage grade down is his six penalties on the year.
Woolen now sits at five interceptions on the season after nabbing a gift from Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette, attempting to hit quarterback Tom Brady on a trick play. Woolen joins Seahawks Legend Earl Thomas and corner Casey Hayward as the only players to record five picks in their first 10 games since 2010.
Both rookies will be key for Seattle's playoff aspirations, as the Seahawks head into the bye week to regroup.
