After taking Christmas off, the Seahawks were back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Tuesday, and Pete Carroll received some encouraging news early in the day.

Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who has missed the past two games with a hip pointer injury, was planning to run Tuesday, and while that doesn't guarantee a Week 17 return, it was a positive development, Carroll said on his weekly appearance on Seattle Sports 710AM.

"He's running today, that's a really good sign," Carroll said on the Brock & Salk Show. "He tried really hard on game day, he was out there,  trying to get it done, see if he could get through it. He just couldn't get loosened up enough to go, so let's all keep our fingers crossed. I just want to see the guy play football some more, we love watching him."

On a less positive note, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who exited Sunday's game in the first quarter with an ankle injury, may not make it back for this weekend's game against the Steelers.

"Don't know yet, but his ankle was sore, I know," Carroll said. "There's a question there, it's going to be hard to get him back."

Also unclear this early in the week is the status of safety Jamal Adams, who has missed the last two games with a knee injury, but Carroll said he has a chance to get back.

"Jamal wants to try, he's going to see where he is," Carroll said. "He's had some rest now. He may be able to bounce this week, we'll find out. I don't know the answer to that yet."
