The Seahawks will be without starting safety Bradley McDougald when they host the Ravens Sunday, the result of a back injury that kept him out of practice all week. Also inactive is safety Lano Hill due to an elbow injury, which means rookie Marquise Blair, a second-round pick out of Utah, is expected to make his first-career start.
Asked on Friday what he wanted to see out of Blair if the rookie did make the start, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said "I want him to kick butt. I'm counting on him playing really good. He's a runner and a hitter. He has shown that. We don't have any question about that. It's just, can he settle in and be comfortable with the calls and adjustments and all that stuff and just play good ball? There's no question about his ability level; it's just getting acclimated. He's had a really good week of practice. He's got a ton of work because of the situation with the safeties. This is as ready as he could possibly be at this point right now. We're looking forward to him playing if that's the call."
Also out due to injury Sunday are defensive end Ziggy Ansah, who injured his ankle in last week's win while recovering a fumble that he forced, as well as left tackle Duane Brown, who will miss a second-straight game with a biceps injury. Guard D.J. Fluker is active after missing last week's game with a hamstring injury.
With Hill and McDougald sidelined, rookie Ugo Amadi will be Seattle's only backup safety available behind Blair and Thompson.
As expected, defensive tackle Jarran Reed is active and ready to make his 2019 debut after returning from suspension this week. Also active is running back Rashaad Penny, who has missed three of the past four games with a hamstring injury.
