After two weeks of practice, running back J.D. McKissic is expected to make his 2018 debut for the Seahawks when they host the 49ers on Sunday.
McKissic, who until this week had been on injured reserve, the result of a foot injury sustained in training camp, was added to the roster on Wednesday. On Friday, Carroll said McKissic has been impressive in his two weeks back.
"He did great, he really did," Carroll said. "He did a marvelous job getting ready to come back—he looked terrific last week too—we just kind of wanted to make sure we took enough time to make sure he could respond to a week's work and all of that; he did, he had a terrific week, and we're anxious to see him run the football."
McKissic is eager to get back on the field and join a rushing attack that is producing a league-best 147.1 rushing yards per game.
"I'm excited to be back. I'm just ready to contribute, play on special teams and hustle and help the team win," he said.
McKissic said the play of his fellow running backs "has been beautiful. You've got guys contributing—three guys with over 300 yards, that's amazing. You've got to give the O-line credit as well, and the coaches have put together a good game plan, and the guys are doing pretty good… It's booming right now. Three guys with 300 yards, that's something you want to be a part of."
McKissic returns as another running back, C.J. Prosise, is out with what Carroll called, "an abdomen, groin, hip-flexor thing going on… It has really been bothering him for some time, he has been working through it, and it's just gone beyond that."
Out for the third week in a row is linebacker K.J. Wright, who was away from the team this week seeking treatment for his knee.
"All reports are good, making progress and positive," Carroll said. "He'll be back tonight."
Asked about Wright's timeline to return, Carroll said, "I don't know that. We've got to wait and see what happens, see where he is probably Wednesday, Thursday next week."
Defensive tackle Shamar Stephen is questionable because of a foot injury, though he was a full participant in practice Friday.
"He has had a foot issue all year long he has been nursing," Carroll said. "We kept him out for a couple days to make sure we maximize the rest. He looked good today, so I think he's questionable because of the two days (off), but there's a chance he can play."
Fullback Tre Madden (chest) and safety Shalom Luani (quadriceps) are listed as doubtful and did not practice Friday.
On Madden, Carroll said, "He's got a little sprain there that was really bothering him throughout the week, got hit on the pass he caught down by the goal line, so we have him listed as doubtful."
On Luani, Carroll said, "He got a hip-flexor thing in the walkthrough part of our practice on Wednesday. How that happened, I don't know. He just took a bad step somewhere in there, and it just flared up on him. It's legitimately there. It's not a serious one, but it's enough to keep him really doubtful for this weekend."
