CLEVELAND—The Seahawks will be without two starting offensive linemen for Sunday's game against the Browns, as both left tackle Duane Brown (biceps) and right guard D.J. Fluker (hamstring) are inactive.
Those absences were expected after both were listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report. Fluker injured his hamstring in last week's win over the Los Angeles Rams, while Brown's injury occurred in Week 3. He has played through the injury, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday that the injury "is not responding as well as we had hoped."
Carroll described Brown's ability to play last week as "heroic" and said, "He was hurt and he knew it and played with it and made it through it. We have to take care of him."
With those two out, George Fant is expected to get the start at left tackle and Jamarco Jones is expected to start at right guard. Fant finished his rookie season starting at left tackle in 2016, then after missing the following season with a knee injury, he has taken on a new role as a sixth lineman/blocking tight end over the past two seasons. Jones, a 2018 fifth-round pick who missed his rookie season with an ankle injury, took over for Fluker last week and played very well despite it being his first game action—at any level—playing guard.
Also out due to injury this week is running back Rashaad Penny, who was able to practice Friday but was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. Penny missed two games earlier this season with a hamstring injury, the returned for last week's game.
Guard Jordan Roos and tight end Jacob Hollister are both active after being promoted from the practice squad on Friday. Also active are rookie defensive end L.J. Collier, who was inactive for two of the previous three games, and rookie safety Marquise Blair, who was inactive for the past two.
For the Browns, starting cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams are both inactive due to hamstring injuries.
