The Seahawks made a pair of expected moves on Tuesday, placing safety Earl Thomas and tight end Will Dissly on injured reserve, the result of injuries sustained in Sunday's win at Arizona.
Thomas fractured his tibia attempting to break up a fourth-quarter touchdown pass, while Dissly sustained a patellar tendon injury following a first-quarter reception.
Corresponding moves to fill those spots have not yet been made.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on Monday that Dissly will have surgery this week, while it has not yet been determined if Thomas will have surgery. The All-Pro free safety elected not to have surgery on a similar leg injury in 2016.
Dissly's injury likely means an even bigger role for Nick Vannett, who was already a big part of the offense. Carroll also indicated that the Seahawks could promote a tight end off the practice squad, though that move has not yet been made. With Thomas out, the Seahawks will turn to second-year safety Tedric Thompson to take over.
"Tedric steps up," Carroll said. "We're excited about Tedric's play, and he has been playing quite a bit in the dime group that we've been playing, so he has been on the field a lot. So it's nothing new for him to get out there. He has been a contributor on special teams as well… He has been very solid, so we expect him to play very well."
